The promenade
The descent from the village of Mojacar to the beach is like a move from Medieval to modern times.
The Playa consists of many miles of sun-drenched sand, from the wide northern beaches of Puerto Rey - where the beautiful natural zone may be encountered - to the southern more isolated rocky coves known as Treasure Bay - a great fishing area.
A central beachside strip, some two miles in length and overlooked by the village, provides the centre of daytime activity. Here are located the many beach bars, situated right on the beach, providing sun-beds, palm shades, cold drinks, warm company, good food and music. All these at modest prices that make relaxing here a pleasant change from the other high priced Costas.
You can also take a ride on one of the camels that grace the sandy beaches - go on, be brave and give it a go.
For the athletic amongst you, there is horse-riding, windsurfing and tennis, with instruction, if required. You can swim, scuba dive, water-ski, dingy sail, drive go-carts ......... or just relax and watch, because, as always, on hand is the ever present Mediterranean, warm, safe and crystal clear...
