Mojacar is home to some tremendous coastal and inland scenery containing abundant flora and fauna and a unique ecosystem of thick woodland, semi desert terrain, mountains and sand dunes. Bird watching, walking and cycling tours are the perfect way to explore this stunning wilderness and is one of the most popular activities away from the beaches.

Garrucha

Mojacar provides the ideal base for travel and sightseeing trips. Firstly, there is a local bus service between the beach, the village and the neighbouring fishing village of Garrucha, where the daily catch is auctioned at the quay side.

There are several market towns, Vera, Cuevas, Murcia and Lorca and trips coincide with market day when the street markets open and goods are brought from near and far for sale and barter.

Murcia

The city of Murcia is described as one of the most beautiful and historic in the country. The city
stands on the banks of the river and enjoys all year round sunshine. It has the highest temperatures in the region. There is a great deal of Moorish influence in the city, not least of all the impressive city walls. After the reconquest, the 20 mosques in the city were turned into churches. The Cathedral is the most highly prized building in the city. The first foundation stone was laid in 1388 by Bishop Pedrosa. It took four centuries to complete. There are so many different styles and cultures within, including 23 different
chapels.

Murcia does have its own airport, even if it is very small. With all facilities, the San Javier airport handles International flights and offers all facilities such as regional transport and car hire. To be precise, the airport is called Murcia airport, despite the fact that it lies about 45 km outside of the city close to a small town called San Javier.

Lorca

Lorca is the third City in the Region of Murcia, it is a medieval town built in the shadow of the Islamic fortress, it has many beautiful buildings of architectural interest as well as many fabulous shops. The Fiesta at Easter (Santa Semana) is one of the most impressive in Murcia, where legions of Roman soldiers and Chariots with white horses race through the narrow streets.

Vera

The beautiful Cabo de Gata Natural Park is only about an hours drive from Vera Playa and it has two sides to it; the eastern side which includes the villages of Las Negras, Rodalquilar and San José and the western side which is around Cabo de Gata village.

Each side is quite different as the east has the mountains and beaches with the fantastic volcanic rocks and outcrops and the western side is flatter with the long straight beaches each side of Cabo de Gata village with the salinas or lagoons behind. These salinas are home to many bird species including Pink Flamingos.

Vera Playa
Vera Playa is famous for its large Naturist Beach (Nudist beach), it is known as the centre of naturism in Andalucía. At Vera Playa there is also a Parque Acuatico (Water Park), which provides a thrilling and fun family day out. You can choose to relax by one of the three swimming pools or
experience the exhilarating fun of the kamikaze water shoots, black hole and Adventure River. There is also mini-golf, green zones and an amusement
park.

Almeria
Mini Hollywood

A trip to Almeria must include a visit to "Mini Hollywood", where many famous Spaghetti Westerns were filmed. While you are there, visit the zoo and see animals in surroundings similar to their natural habitat.
